Discovering Gozo is the key to discovering one of the most untouched and unique islands in the Mediterranean. With amazing underwater topography to explore you will spoilt for choice as to which dive to do next.
Gozo, a middle sized island in the inhabited Maltese archipelago is the perfect island holiday destination, it is a serene land where time has seemingly stood still.
The Calypso Diving Centre is owned by passionate diver George Vella, and like Oonasdivers, has been catering for divers since 1985. From the very beginning the safety and enjoyment of the clients has always been the top priority and to this day Calypso Divers continually invest in their equipment and facilities year on year.
Over the years, Calypso Divers' reputation for safety standards, organisation and punctuality are the envy of everyone. The dive centre is the only recognised BSAC school in Gozo and also a PADI approved dive centre.
A stone’s throw away from the bright, blue, Mediterranean Sea sits the recently renovated four star Gozo Hotel Calypso. Perfectly positioned on the north shore of the Island in the fishing harbour of Marsalforn, Calypso blends effortlessly within this picturesque seaside resort.
This trip can easily be combined with a stay in Malta if desired.
The Calypso Hotel is situated close to the dive centre, nestled in the little harbour town of Marsalforn, on the Northern coast of the island.
Calypso’s 100 guest rooms include 96 twin/double rooms, 3 suites and 1 Presidential Suite. All creature comforts are at hand to facilitate your accommodation and each room is equipped with a bath/shower, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a balcony or terrace, radio, colour television, mini-bar and safety deposit box (at a charge).
The reception desk is manned 24 hours a day and Calypso's friendly staff will be only too happy to help you in any way.
Wi-Fi Internet is available for free in all rooms of the hotel and the internet is available in the hotel foyer at a charge.
The Calypso Hotel has an outdoor rooftop pool with fantastic views over Marsalforn Bay.
Flights from the UK only take 3 hours to Malta’s Luqa International airport. Flights operate on a daily basis from many airports in the UK.
On arrival at Malta airport you will be met and transferred to the Gozo ferry and then taken to the Calypso Hotel.
Accommodation on a Bed and Breakfast is included within your package. The Calypso Hotel also has a number of restaurants to choose from for lunch and dinner:
La Perla Restaurant
The main restaurant is situated on the first floor with breathtaking views of Marsalforn and the Mediterranean Sea. La Perla serves a hot buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and guests will enjoy its varied menu of local and international cuisine. The decor is minimalistic and the ambience unique, making it the perfect spot to stop for a bite to eat whatever the time or season.
La Perla’s Sunday Buffet lunch is famed among both locals and tourists alike and offers a feast for the eyes and taste buds every week and all year round.
Luce D’Oro
Luce D’Oro is Hotel Calypso's A La Carte option. Situated on our rooftop with panoramic views of the bay and beyond, guests will delight in this restaurant’s speciality dishes, tranquil environment and elegant ambiance.
Arlecchino Restaurant
Found at ground level, Arlecchino is an established restaurant specialising in pasta, grills and pizza with a difference.
Dragon
Famed for its Oriental cuisine, Dragon was the first Chinese restaurant to open in Gozo and it deserves its favourable reputation. The Chinese chef will prepare authentic dishes to suit your tastes as you enjoy a meal packed with flavour.
Caffino
Also on the ground floor this popular coffee-spot is a haven for sweet lovers looking for a quick fix. With comfortable indoor or outdoor seating options, Caffino is a sanctuary of tranquillity set back from the busy bay. Grab a quick coffee, indulge in a delectable desert prepared by the specialised pastry team or simply watch the world go by over a cool drink.
Sunset Bar
Situated on the hotel’s top spot, the Sunset Bar is the ideal location to enjoy a cocktail or chilled glass of wine. The bar is stocked with premium wines, spirits and beers while our snack menu offers tasty options which can be enjoyed by the poolside.
Gozo has an amazing rural countryside and is well known for it’s scenic hills, so walking would be a great way to witness the stunning land. Historical architecture abounds structures from pre-Egyptian pyramids through to the Crusaders of the St John’s Cross. Between May & October every town celebrates their patron saints feast day or “festa”! These celebrations are not to be missed, when the church is illuminated and streets are festooned with flags, drapes and light bulbs it’s something magical. The evening culminates in a firework spectacular.
Places of interest on Gozo are the Citadel, the Cathedral & Cathedral museum, the Natural History museum and Folk museums, in Victoria (named in honour of Queen Victoria) or by its old name Rabat, literally “the city”
Ta’ Pinu church is a place of pilgrimage for the Maltese and Gozitans at Xewkija.
The Megalithic temples of Ggantija near the village of Xaghra according to latest analysis were built around 3600 BC, earlier than the first pyramids in Egypt and Stonehenge.
Take a day trip across to Comino, the smallest inhabited island, where you can truly relax without traffic or noise pollution. Swimming in the Blue Lagoon or walking over the wild flower and thyme covered rocky landscape are ideally suited to this island.
Most of the famous dive sites around Gozo are accessible from shore Some dive sites are quite easy to get to and some not so easy. In any case, we do recommend that divers have a good pair of hard sole boots, as the rocks can be quite sharp.
Calypso Dive Centre also organise regular boat dives with their fast rigid inflatable boats to go to dive sites that are not accessible from the shore. These boat dives are planned according to the sea and weather conditions and can be booked on site.
Twice daily dives are included in your package and night dives are organised according to demand. The morning dives leave at 08.45 and the afternoon leaves at 13.45.
The choice of the dive sites for any particular day, is the responsibility of the accompanying instructor. He / she checks out the sea conditions, where the clients have dived so far etc. and then chooses the dive site most appropriate for that day. As Calypso Dive Centre believe that all clients should get maximum enjoyment from every dive, they try as hard as they can to select the groups carefully so that the very experienced divers are grouped together and the not so experienced are grouped together.
