ScubaAddicts Mozambique Extension

To complement “Sharkweek” at ScubaAddicts there is now an extension available to the Ponta do Oura area of Mozambique. Ponto do Oura offers some of the best Hammerhead Shark & Bull Shark diving in Southern Africa. You’ll also have the opportunity to dive with other sharks including Tiger Sharks, Blacktip Sharks, Leopard Sharks, Silvertip Sharks as well as the huge variety of game fish, rays, turtles and much more.

After your 5 days diving in Umkomaas it's time to head north for a couple of hours, starting towards Mozambique. On the way you will stop in the town of St. Lucia, famous for its Hippos & Crocs, that evening enjoy dinner at the lodge or at one of the local restaurants before you overnight at Lodge Afrique, St. Lucia, South Africa.

The following morning it's up bright and early for a full days game drive at Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, home to Africa's wildlife including the Big-5, Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino & Buffalo, the safari is fully guided in an open safari vehicle so don’t forget that all important camera.

After the game drive you head back to St. Lucia to reflect on the day, enjoy dinner at the lodge or one of the local restaurants and look forward to the shark diving that awaits you in Mozambique the following day.

The following morning it's an early start to transfer north to the border and enter Mozambique. At the border you change vehicles into 4 x 4, there are no tar roads to Ponta Do Oura, this is where the adventure begins.

When you arrive in Ponta Do Oura, the boat will be waiting for you to kit-up before heading out on your first shark dive on the fantastic reefs of Ponta Do Oura, nothing like hitting the ground running eh! The dive will give you a taste of the shark diving, boat launching and adventures that the next few days will bring.

The following 4 days will bring you glorious diving and hopefully more sharks than you can shake a stick at before transferring back to South Africa to spend a final night in St Lucia.

Your accommodation for your 2 night stay in St Lucia is at the beautiful Lodge Afriqué, a recently built guest house with eight free standing luxury thatched suites, each with full Afro-Victorian bathrooms. All the suites are connected to the central lodge by a raised wooden deck pathway over the beautiful subtropical garden, by the shimmering pool. A fantastic place to unwind after your day's game drive.

For you stay in Mozambique we normally use Planet Scuba. Set amongst imposing wild fig trees, Planet Scuba overlooks the beautiful bay of Ponta Do Ouro.

Accommodation is in the comfort of a private lodge with 10 en-suite bedrooms.  All bedrooms are air-conditioned and available as king or twin beds. Outside you can relax on the large deck by the pool with views overlooking the ocean and miles of golden sandy beaches.

All accommodation for the duration of this tour is on a B&B basis.

Daily flights are available from the UK with several airlines either direct to Durban or via Johannesburg. When enquiring about the South Africa tour your tour advisor will be very happy to discuss and book the best flights available for the duration and itinerary you wish take.

Transfer time from Durban airport to ScubaAddicts Lodge is approximately 45 minutes.

At ScubaAddicts continental breakfast is provided as part of your package, evening meals can be organised as a group or individually and paid for locally. ScubaAddicts have pizza nights, Braai (barbeque) nights and as well as dining out at local restaurants if you wish, but we do strongly recommend the good old home cooking. Potji is the local stew cooked all day in the traditional cauldron over a wood fire and we have it on good authority that this must not be missed.

At Lodge Afrique and Planet Scuba lunch and dinner can be taken either at the lodge itself or at one of the local restaurants.

Once your day's diving is over at ScubaAddicts Lodge you may feel like exploring a little more of this Cosmopolitan city, below are just a few examples of what Durban has to offer, there are so many we just didn’t have the space…………..

You could visit uShaka Marine World, watch a rugby match at Kings Park or try your luck gambling at the Suncoast Casino or enjoy a cocktail at Billy the B.U.M.S. (B.U.M’s stands for “Basic Up Market Socialite” and this is the type of crowd that frequents Billy’s).

Why not take a rickshaw ride along the beach front before shopping for spices at the Victoria Street market, a real cultural extravaganza, there are around 180 stalls selling basketwork, brass-ware, wood articles as well as meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.

And for those wishing to see a little more of the natural Durban a visit the Mangrove Swamps on the north bank of the Mgeni River is a must….. and still the list goes on.

Like Sharkweek the dives in Ponta do Oura are taken in the morning, should weather permit there may be a chance to dive again in the afternoon, this is arranged and paid for locally.
