St Lucia

The island of Saint Lucia has a rich and colourful history, passing through both British and French colonialism before winning its independence in 1979. This has bestowed a unique African-Anglo-Franko flavour upon the island and its inhabitants.

The island is already well established as a world renowned wedding and honeymoon destination, and it is easy to see why; the idyllic beaches, vistas and climate are a dream for most northern Europeans! Saint Lucia has a tropical climate throughout the year, with January generally being the coolest at ~26oC and September being the hottest at ~28oC. The winter months are the driest and least humid.

The interior of the island is covered in tropical rainforest, some of this is explorable through a garden reserve. Bananas and other fruits are abundant and can be seen from the roadside growing in cultivations, a local specialty “plantain” is also grown and served with most dishes.
