St Paul’s Bay, a former fisherman’s village in northern Malta, still retains touches of Maltese village life such as its yearly festa (village feast). Sands Apartments are very conveniently situated just off the main road that runs through St Paul’s Bay around 100 metres from the Maltaqua Dive Centre. Their position on the edge of the town means they are close to all amenities, and are designed with divers in mind as there is a basement room to wash and store your gear so no need to lug it upstairs!

There is the option of one, two- and three-bedroom apartments catering for couples, families, and groups alike, and free Wi-Fi is available for all guests. If travelling as a larger group, Sands can accommodate up to 36 guests in total. The development benefits from a lift and metered air conditioning and is a 5-minute walk away from the beach, with the nearest bus stop just 50 yards from your door.

Maltaqua is a PADI 5 Star Dive Centre and BSAC Centre of Excellence founded in 1970 by Mike and Agnes Upton, both are CMAS National Instructors, PADI Staff Instructors and BSAC Advanced Instructors who have logged thousands of dives since they started diving in 1968. They are teachers by profession so diver training has always been of particular interest to them.

In the 50 years that Maltaqua has been one of Europe's leading dive bases it has serviced tens of thousands of clients and trained thousands of divers and hundreds of highly skilled instructors. They have strived to improve the range and quality of service they offer to their clients but always maintain a policy of Safety First. Over the years their standards of safety and service have brought them worldwide recognition and acclaim, they are also experienced in catering for groups of all sizes along with technical divers.

The areas in and around St Paul’s Bay have so much to offer ensuring your holiday will be one to remember, whether you head up to Qawra Point to explore the rock pools, catch some rays at one of Malta’s finest sandy beaches Golden Bay, hunt for bargains in the many gift shops or take a wander around the classic car museum, you really are spoilt for choice.

If you are a seafood lover then take a stroll down the promenade and check out the local fishermen’s catch of the day whilst taking in the beautiful sea views.

It has been said that St Paul’s Bay has a large variety of bars for such a small town so as the sun sets you can take your pick from intimate venues set along the side streets of the village, or if you are looking to party then Café Del Mar is the place to be as it is the biggest beach club in Malta.

Our partner in Malta, Maltaqua, offers a selection of recreational and technical diving courses, along with escorted, guided, and unguided diving packages. The standard dive package includes 10 escorted shore dives around Malta. These dives are spread out over the duration of your stay and can be made up of wreck, cave, or reef dives.

Most of the diving around Malta is from shore so there are many dives to choose from. Use of cylinder, air, weights, and road transport is also included. Should you wish to join any of the dive trips to Gozo or Comino it is possible to do so by just paying a supplement of €25 for the day.

Most of Malta's wreck dives are easily reached from shore. Should you wish to dive on the deeper wrecks (40 meters plus) these can also be included as part of this package against a boat supplement charge of between €15 - €25 per dive. You can opt to use Nitrox (32%) on many of the dives, at a minimal cost of €5 per dive.

Divers meet at the dive centre for 08.15 and are normally back between 14:00 and 15:00. A pickup service is included within your package for guests staying in locally.

The Mediterranean archipelago of Malta lies to the South of Sicily and with sea temperatures remaining above 15c even in the winter, combined with excellent visibility down to around 30m, this really is a destination that is great for year-round diving.

The winters are short and mild, and the summers long, hot, and sunny. There are few cold days and never frost or snow. Rainfall in Malta is minimal with an average of 20 inches per year, and in summer it rarely rains. June through to August are the hottest months and the sultry temperatures are eased with sea breezes.
