Marsa Shagra Mini Break Marvellousness

Our lovely client, Faye, bring us some much needed winter sunshine...

  • I have visited the Egyptian Red Sea many times and love its reliability for beautiful blue waters, pretty coral and an abundance of marine life. It was therefore an easy choice for a little Winter Sun mini break. A mini break? To Egypt? Yes, you heard me right, it is totally doable! With a little help from the lovely Lydia at Oonas we put together a rather lovely 5 night trip to Marsa Shagra in the southern Red Sea. Easyjet flights from Gatwick to Hurghada mean you can arrive there on a Thursday night, for in 4 days of diving and head back on Tuesday night (transfers are part of the package) - a very good use of 4 days holiday I thought!

  • Marsa Shagra is one of the Red Sea Diving Safari villages and is perfect for a relaxing break as you have unlimited house reef diving and can dive as much (or as little) as you like, when you like. It is an eco friendly village and a fantastic set up with all inclusive restaurant and additional snack bar / cafes. The food is amazing - tasty and fresh and something for everyone. February is low season, and whilst the temperatures can be a little cooler, they most certainly fit Winter Sun criteria for me and the big advantage is that there are fewer divers, so you can have the reefs pretty much to yourself as people have different dive times and dive plans. I have stayed in the tents before and love the concept but opted for a deluxe chalet on this Winter visit for a bit of added comfort. The chalets are really well designed and have views out over the sea and village and a lovely terrace to sit out and enjoy them. It was so wonderful to wake up every morning and look out onto a sunny sea view when it had been so grey and miserable at home!

  • More good news - the reefs are full of life and the coral is in excellent condition, so whatever time of year you go, you will always see something interesting! My personal favourites this trip were the ridiculously cute torpedo rays and the very chilled out turtles. I did 9 dives on the house reefs on different profiles and saw something different every dive. Diving the reefs at different times of the day gives different light and different critter behaviours so plenty to see.

If you want the ultimate in relaxing mini break, you can also book in with the resident masseur. I would highly recommend this, he is amazing and this really added to the overall theme of having a nice Winter treat away from it all.

So if you are short on time or holiday allowance or just want a quick get away for some bright blue skies, sunshine and blue waters with the amazing Egyptian marine life, this Egyptian mini break thing could also be the thing for you!
