Atlantis Puerto Galera

Hotel Overview

Atlantis Puerto Galera is beautifully built into the hills of Sabang and has a great beachfront location, in many travel guidebooks and magazines Atlantis PG is quoted as one of the most outstanding resorts of the Philippines with its award-winning Flintstones design. Quiet paths with lush landscaping and lovely views lead to each of the 40 rooms which all have en suite facilities, climate-controlled air conditioning, fully stocked mini bar, adjustable ceiling fans, solar heated hot water, cable TV with free movie and sports channels, safety deposit box and wireless internet. If upgrading to a suite, you will also have coffee and tea making facilities and a DVD player.

The resort has a freshwater swimming pool with a deep area suitable for dive training, and a shallow area that is perfect for children to enjoy. The surrounding tropical gardens are a wonderful place to unwind with a cocktail and swap stories from your day. For some serious pampering take some time out in the resort’s purpose-built spa where there are many treatments to choose from including the one-hour Atlantis Signature Massage, Japanese Shiatsu, Atlantis Calming and Nourishing Facial, or ‘Create your Own Heaven’ with a bespoke spa package of luxurious delights.

Puerto Galera Resort has a spacious 17 square meter, climate-controlled Camera Room for comfortable pre-dive housing preparation. The room has 30 individual cubbyholes to store equipment with a padded work area that is 70cm deep with overhead and individual lighting. There are several air guns distributed around the room, along with 2 and 3 prong power sockets (110 & 220 volts). There are paper towel dispensers for cleaning O-Rings and the shelf runs the length of the work surface for battery chargers. The room also has two internet-ready desktop PC's for guests to view their photos and upload to share on Facebook.

The air-conditioned classroom is available for groups doing dive instruction, photo workshops, group meetings and more. The room comfortably seats six, and provides a flat screen TV with HDMI cable, DVD player, PADI library, and fast wireless internet. Padded work areas along two sides can serve as camera workstations. The useful boutique shop stocks both essential dive gear and souvenirs. Highlights include unique silver dive jewellery and a selection of beautiful native art made from coconut wood such as bowls and vases. There are also practical items such as sunscreen, swim wear, sarongs and caps, and some fun stuff for kids as well as travel books, fish ID books and postcards.

Puerto Galera offers superb scuba diving along with many more activities to get you out and about exploring the local area. Tamaraw Falls is set amongst wonderful scenery and there are beautiful rock formations below the waterfall where you can bathe in the pools and taste the sweet spring water. Tukuran, or Hidden Paradise, is another amazing place where the waterfalls have shaped the rocky landscape into pools and small falls. All around Puerto Galera there are walking trails with stunning views over the ocean and surrounding villages but remember that the town is built into a hillside so don’t expect flat tracks! Nearby you will find White Beach, Haligi and Bayanan, a lovely mix of white sandy beaches and deserted little coves and caves where many an hour can be spent swimming and snorkelling. Golfers can enjoy the beautiful golf course situated at the foot of Mount Malasimbo which boasts some of the best views in the area, and if you are interested in history then visit Mangyan Village. The Mangyans are the aborigines of Mindoro who settled in the village many years ago, here you can witness their daily life of primitive survival. The perfect end to any holiday in Puerto Galera is a Sunset Cruise, this sightseeing tour takes you around the untouched beaches where you can enjoy drinks and play games on the beach whilst watching dusk fall.

You do not need a VISA to enter the Philippines.

Diving Information

The archipelago is home to more than 3,000 species of fish and 448 species of coral, here you can combine unbelievable muck-diving with pristine coral reefs and shoals of schooling fish. Mindoro is one of the most popular diving destinations in the Philippines, and Puerto Galera is at the centre being just minutes away from over 30 world class dive sites with something suitable for divers of all levels. A trip to Verde Island with its crystal-clear waters is a must as this area is widely regarded as being the heart of the ocean’s marine biodiversity. Across the region there is an abundance of marine life in all shapes and sizes from sharks to sweetlips, and turtles to nudibranch, along with beautiful hard and soft corals.

Atlantis Puerto Galera’s 5* PADI CD Centre is just one of a few centres with such a rating in Asia. Here you will find the highest standard of dive education, first class facilities and world class dive guides. The dive centre has 60 individual purpose-built equipment storage cubby-holes to keep your equipment dry and organized, high quality rental kit, spacious boats, a purpose-built training pool, fresh beach towels every day, snacks and drinking water, hot water shower in the dive shop, multiple compressors for Air, Nitrox and Trimix and to top all that, your equipment is carried for you. There are choices of dive sites daily, just have a chat with your guide about where you would like to go; the many dive sites are within a 10-minute boat ride from the resort and diving takes place in small groups of no more than 6 people.

Included within your diving package are 3 boat trips, you can choose from dive times of 9.00 am, 11.00 am, 2.00 pm, 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm as well as night dives. For something quite special try a Fluro Night Dive, by using a special filtered blue light and a yellow mask visor you will see corals and anemones stand out in neon colours. Lizardfish and spearer mantis shrimp glow an eerie green colour, scorpionfish emit a reddish-purple luminance, hermit crabs appear illuminated from within, seagrass take on a reddish-hue and nudibranchs will glow like they have been plugged into the mains. Night diving using 'blue light' is a whole new unique experience where you can witness first-hand the magic of fluorescence!
